Pfffft! Always the same. Couldn't remember the term the English word someone who eats no animal produce; then slapped myself on the forehead when I saw 'vegan'. Voilà also left me feeling "duh". Because it's in French (my language) it didn't even cross my mind. Oh well. I do love how these tests force me to rake my mind.
Viceroy is not a title of nobility. It is a ruling representative of the government, often in a colony. The English peerage titles are baron, viscount, earl, marquess, and duke.
only reason I knew that answer was because a character in a book I'm reading is a viscount. Otherwise I wouldn't have even thought of it, let alone been able to spell it.
divantilya, I hesitate to say this, because of the risk of driving you more strongly towards the bottle, but "Vicount" in English would be pronounced with the "i" as in "sin", not as in "Viscount". It needs the "s" to obtain the right pronunciation. Sorry.
A porch without a roof is not a porch. It is a deck or a stoop. When I googled the definition of porch, the first five entries from different dictionary sources all defined it as some kind of covered area. A better clue would have been to just use: A porch.
The only time I've ever heard of a porch without a roof was after a hurricane blew the roof away. Every porch has a roof, otherwise it's just a deck. Without giving the answer away, Wikipedia describes it as "a roofed, open-air gallery, or porch," which I suggest would make a much better clue.
Whenever I spell something wrong it's not accepted even though these quizzes in general accept the weirdest spellings. How about accepting "vallet" as well?
As an aside to my admitted bad spelling, dictionary.com seems to agree with me that Veranda doesn't have an "h" at the end. Did I mispell it completely, or is it not accepted without the "h"? If it was the "h" that kept me from getting that, then you should really take "veranda" as well.
A vegetarian is someone who doesn't eat meat, but is willing to eat other animal products that don't involve killing the animal (like eggs or dairy products). A vegan won't eat any animal products, period.
"Verdurous" should be accepted for lush and green. The only reason I know that word is because there's an anime called "Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet"
in the English language which drive some of us to drink! )
That feed on their velocity;
And little whirls have lesser whirls
And so on to viscosity.
Always knew it would come in handy one day!
