I'd never heard of Robbie Williams before this, so I youtubed him. Wow, I'll never have that 37 seconds back.

+1 - he's truly terrible.

He and Simon Cowell are the epitome of what is wrong with the music industry

Isn't/wasn't he the lead singer of Take That? Take That is one of those weird examples of a musical act that was HUGE in the UK (and other places maybe?) and never even made a blip on the charts in the States. The only place Americans *might* have heard of them is from that song at the end of the movie "Stardust".

Both Take That and Williams were/are huge in most of Europe actually.

He also did a cover of Somethin' Stupid with Nicole Kidman a few years ago.

Pretty sure that Gary Barlow was the lead singer (and songwriter) of Take That, though Williams and the others were given a handful of songs to take the lead on.

Take That had a single hit in the US with Back for Good, but it was a top 10. Millennium was also moderately popular when it came out, and its music video got plenty of play.

You don't know how lucky you are. As an Englishman I have had to put up with this talentless no mark for years. Problem is he thinks he is really talented our equivalent of Bieber.

As if Bieber has any talent either.

I'm embarrassed that I tried Henry Rollins and Morrissey for Robbie Williams. I also tried Kid and Play for The Weeknd.

I knew that wasn't Henry Rollins but I just had to type it too.

Against everyone's advice I googled to see how bad he was. Basically take any crap power ballad pushed by record execs onto lipstick wearing hair bands of the 80s, remove the scratchy vocals and guitar torture and there ya go.

I only got Robbie Williams because I was thinking Pharrell Williams for John Legend.

Did not recognize The Weeknd from that picture.

So what's the problem - that some of these people don't produce good music, or that your generation refuses to learn about anything new?

Thank God I never learned the name of that Green Day guy who's so arrogant about his bubblegum "punk" music. Although the Oasis guy was 10 times worse about his mediocre, middle of the road Britpop music.

Green Day at least has shown staying power for 20+ years. They're not everyone's cup of tea, but neither are they a flash in the pan like Oasis was.

For the most part. I had to think about Dua Lipa for a minute. She looks like some kind of Kardashian/Emma Roberts mash-up. The only thing I really know about her is the name, because it's so unique. Otherwise, I can't name one song by her.

You know what really grinds my gears? People saying staff like "This musician was/is really terrible" or "He/she has no talent". We're talking here about music, so basically about personal taste. The fact that you personally doesn't like someone's music doesn't give you the right to say such insulting things about it.
+1
Level 88

You’re mixing up personal tastes with objective criticism. Are you saying that any criticism of anything at all is invalid, as everything depends on your individual point of view?

I personally prefer a dirty BigMac over a steak. One is objectively better quality than the other, but I freely admit to liking the cheap and nasty version. Conversely, I’m not a fan of classical music, but would never deny the enduring quality it possesses, despite it not being to my taste. I love Banksy’s work, but would I try to argue that it is comparable to the Sistine Chapel?

The same goes for any artistic production, be it film, art or music. Most pop music is firmly in the fast food camp - popular with the masses, but OBJECTIVELY less good. Pop music fans tend to be largely ignorant of the huge variety of wonderful music available, as they are happy with their Maccie D’s. Good luck to them.

Stop whingeing about your own ignorance and get educated - or just admit that you like gash tunes…

Really surprised Robbie Williams was more well-known than Keith Richards or Eddie Van Halen, especially considering he is virtually unknown in the U.S.
