Yes, that's a bit tough writing a quiz, then seeing another person's close copy being featured. I appreciate that quiz feature decisions rest with one person, Quizmaster, who has a million things to deal with on Jetpunk, so both versions may not necessarily have been spotted before one got featured (or maybe there were editorial reasons - perhaps Kolji's one was easier to convert to featuring than Scambi's). Still, it would be great for the morale of quiz writers if there was an emphasis on the originator of an idea being worked with to produce a featured quiz, rather than going with a copy, if that's not too inconvenient.
This is a great idea for a quiz, but I don't agree with Crimea being included as a part of Russia. It's only recognized as such by a very small group of countries. If we are going that way, then Luhansk, Donetsk, South Ossetia, etc. should be included as well.
This is a very complex debate. What makes a country? The recognition of the rest of the countries, or the actual situation whithin its borders? If most of the inhabitans have decided to join Russia, and it is actually ruled by Moscow, does it really matters how many countries are happy with it?
I despise Russia's (and any other country's) imperialistic expansionism as much as the next man, but having the maps reflect a distorted reality won't really help anyone.
Why is recognition by the UN important? Were there no countries before the UN existed? It is also clear that the UN has in the past been and is now biased in favour of certain countries such that it will not recognise, for example, Taiwan. Taiwan is a sovereign state by all practical definitions, but is not recognised by the UN because China would block it for political purposes (also, the UN gives veto power to certain powerful nations, which prevents anything ever changing in a way they don't like).
Fun quiz idea! Can't believe I got them all except for Russia and Mongolia.. Probably did not expect something there. I take it that some small nations such as Liechtenstein or Monaco are not displayed as you used the Countries of the World-map? I recall typing in Liechtenstein and Austria for example.
same but this is just as fun (and maybe less arguments in the comments... then again.. maybe not, the % of comments that are complaining is allready quite high for such few comments)
I'm glad other people enjoyed this; personally I found this to be exceptionally frustrating. If the world map were colored instead of all countries being the same color, that would have helped.
I didn't understand the premise until I had less than a minute left! damn I feel stupid (still didn't get very many after I realised what was supposed to be doing anyway though haha)
Russgolia. Argenguay. Malitania. Gabongo. Vietbodia. Pakghanistan. Guyiname. Crovenia. I just can't figure out what to name the merge of Czechia and Slovakia.
When did Surinam and Guyana merge? - Surinam was Dutch Guiana until 1986 when it became Surinam (note, without the "e") and Guyana was British Guiana until it became independent (sorry, can't remember the year) and renamed itself Guyana.
Let's sing along: Reunited and it feels so good, Reunited cause we understood, There`s one perfect fit, And sugar this one is it, We both are so excited, Cause we're reunited, Hey hey
Hahah ow no! No I wont be able to get it out of my head for days !! And in like two weeks from now I will catch myself humming it and cant remember why on earth I am singing that song..
I dont get the people that are whining, the description is clear enough 20 countries have been merged (not 10 or 40) guess the countries that have been merged. You can even see the tabel of paired countries!! That you miss it, ok, it can happen, but to blame the quiz and say there is something wrong with it... nah. Just own your own mistakes.
um this is probably the least academic pointless waste of time and effort it isnt anything more than a highlights magazine find the hidden object it is not Geography it is a kids game dont mix the two and pretend this has any real merit ,
Wow. I never expected to see not only this little insight, but such blatant rudeness. Well, I take that back. But still. This is in fact helpful AND geography, as a person who does not know countries is like to to bad and *get salty*. Also, it helps build geographical knowledge of looking around a map to see if something is amiss. Third, there is no requirement for it to be educational. Many, many quizzes on this site are simply for fun. Lastly, I kind of see you point. You for sure need some academic instruction with your sentence structure.
I spent so long finding the last one so I just checked the comments out of curiosity and somebody said,"Something feels right with Czechia and Slovakia being merged." And I just felt like an idiot not getting the easiest one
omg :-)
I despise Russia's (and any other country's) imperialistic expansionism as much as the next man, but having the maps reflect a distorted reality won't really help anyone.
