For Thailand, I think that Hat Yai is not the largest non-capital city. Population of Hat Yai is only 157,467, ranked 4th among non-capital cities. The largest one is Nonthaburi with 270,609 people, but it can be considered as outskirts of Bangkok Metropolitan Region. The 2nd and 3rd are Nakhon Ratchasima and Chiang Mai, with populations of 174,332 and 174,235 respectively. In my opinion, either Nonthaburi or Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat/Korat) is better option than Hat Yai.
I was pretty shocked by that one. By Namangan too. "Addu City" is a really recent invention in the Maldives. It's not wrong, but in a country in which island=village (and in an atoll in which - until "Addu City" was created - two villages on one island meant that they are both referred to as "islands") seeing an official agglomeration is weird.
