Biggest Cities in the Persian Gulf Region on the Map
Historically home to abundant pearls and dhows drifting along the water's surface, the Gulf region is best known today as a major shipping region for the world's petroleum, and increasingly as an international centre between the major population regions in the world. Can you name every city in the Gulf region with at least 150,000 people?
Population is by urban area, meaning that the cities directly connected to one another are grouped together. The population I considered for each city is directly mapped above.
Only cities in the administrative regions which directly touch the Persian Gulf are considered. This helps me to add cities with an inland port and cities with a cultural, political and economic connection to the Gulf region. I considered colouring in the regions to make them more visible but I was hesitant to ruin the design of the map.
Oman borders the Persian Gulf, but I greyed it out because it is merely one exclave with no large cities.
Great quiz as always Jiaozira! I'm a bit curious about Hafir al-Batin as it's a bit inland compared to the other ones. Is there a reason why it's still considered part of the Persian Gulf?
Any city in a region bordering the Persian Gulf is eligible for the quiz, partially because it doesn't feel right to leave cities like Basra and Ahvaz out of the quiz, but also because of cultural reasons as well.
For example, I believe that the dominant language in Hafr al-Batin is Gulf Arabic, which is shared with regions from Kuwait all the way to Dubai.
Thank you! The caveats under the city's name means that the automatic type-ins aren't applied here only the ones I manually added. Damman will work now.

Thank you for playing, JWatson!
