Mistakes: Palau is not included, Yap Islands (part of Micronesia) is not included, the French overseas territory of Reunion is not included, and Astove Island, Assomption Island, and Aldabra Island (part of Seychelles) is not included.
- Palau is not within the ring. An uninhabited island is, but that is not included since nobody lives there!
- Yap Islands are too far away and not inside the boundaries.
- Reunion is, as you say, an overseas territory and therefore not included. (Have added that to the description to make it more clear)
- Astove island is uninhabited, Assomption Island is not typically considered to be apart of the main part of Seychelles. Similarly Aldabra Island.
At the end of the day, the islands above actually within the ring are not featured on the World Map JetPunk uses and would cause more complaints if they were to be included, than if they were just left out.
Reunion is actually an overseas region/department of France, rather than a territory. It's similar to the status Hawaii has in the U.S. -- administratively identical to every other region and an integral part of the country, just separated by water. However, I do agree with your reasoning.
The caveat was updated after this to reflect Réunion. Yes, it is not a territory but a department, however it is still an overseas department. Therefore the caveat covers this base as well.
By the way, if overseas territories were to be counted, France would also be represented by Mayotte and by some of the French Southern and Antarctic territories (Glorioso and the other scattered island in the Mozambique channel and maybe Amsterdam island in the southern Indian ocean)
Stewart, imagine making a quiz that no-one complained about...now that would be terrible. After all, "There's only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
It was really tough to get a start. I was mainly stumped because I figured it would all be at the same lattitude or longitude, dont know whichis which. After I still not getting hits, while I was pretty sure I covered north to south (like chile covers most of the southern hemisphere) I was confused and kept trying random things, I think I got a hit with Australia. But then I tried things which should be at the same height with no luck. I took a long time to get rolling. Still a fun quiz though
Maybe add in the description that the ring is randomly placed on the earth. And not like a slice taken out (and layed flat, but well, all maps are made flat, so that is superfluous).
It has just occurred to me, 3 months later, that I completely forgot to make the quiz I referred to. I planned to do "Countries in a Heart of the World Map", but I believe I got busy and completely forgot. Sorry for this! :P
I keep on having the same problem.. that i think in 3d and not a flat map. So i see it as a strip of a globe. It is soo hard to switch back from that (after the time it takes to realise).
tough piece of map you chosen too, i love it.
this keeps on being a personal mindfuck for me haha (like i have to warp reality to make it fit. Like some people have with puzzles with unfolded cubes, which i dont have much trouble with actually)
If you're looking for related ideas, perhaps one viewed from "under" the earth's surface, i.e. country shapes are inverted left to right. There's got to be some way to do that...
There's this one I made, where the map is backwards (so USA is on the left and Japan on the right, with everything inverted). However you also have to type their names backwards too. Countries of the World... but Backwards!
It sure would have been easier if the names of the countries that I had typed in had appeared somewhere ... Is there a reason the correct answers do not start appearing as in all other JetPunk Quizzes ? Thanks for adding this normal feature (if you can) ... and if you cannot, why not? And if you chose not to, then why not ?? Let me now try playing again to see if it may change
This was done by choice. It makes it more challenging to have to name countries based purely on the map rather than using the answer boxes to decipher the answer. It's commonly used in several of my quizzes where I don't think it's necessary to have the boxes.
You can always hover over a green country on the map to see its name (it'll show up below the map)
I don't think I liked that. I think placing the circle in the Indian Ocean was not much fun.
I like the similar-style quizzes which include the outlines of the countries. (Or at least make the water a different color). I was just spamming island countries until I got them all. I figured I was missing either Brunei/Singapore/Maldives/East Timor.
I don't understand the complaint. If you know where the island countries are, they does not require any guessing. If not, you might have a few incorrect guesses. Isn't that how all quizzes work?

Great quiz, thank you
Nice originality, must have taken you a fair time to put together, it’s appreciated
I can reveal there might be a new quiz like this coming on February 14th!

I'm glad so many people like it.
