It's actually quite a bit further down the list. I believe it's southernmost point is Middle Island in Lake Erie, at about 41.68 *N. In Europe, the southernmost points of Montenegro and Kosovo are just further north than that.
Yeah, it's surprising. When you look at a map, and see the latitiude of a map, the southernmost point of France is only slightly lower than the tips of Maine and Minnesota - Europe is much more northern than you think.
Struggled with the last two as read the caveat to be "only counting mainland countries". I started with Iceland before I read the caveat, so didn't notice that.
Why are people on this site so freakishly good with countries? I was proud that I got 10 but apparently the average person does almost twice as well...
Well, none of these countries are obscure and they are all rather obvious (if you ve ever seen a map). (No stans, or oceanian countries or even african which are also difficult for some) I think this is one of the easier ones as geography quizzes go, but a fun one.
It's not that hard to learn the names and locations of all countries in the world. Where I live, they required us to do so in high school and it was neither any kind of elite school nor a geography-focused profile.
And you would think that most of people attempting geography quiz on a website like jetpunk will at least have some interest in geography. Then it's not that hard to get a perfect or near-perfect score in a quiz like that, which is not very difficult compared to other possible quizes. It's just 196 pieces of information required to be known to get 100% in all quizes similar to this, other types of quizes may require dozens of times more.
Remember "average" is the average of people who love geography. In addition, people tend to gravitate towards quizzes that they know some or a lot about. The average is going to be very skewed.
i dont want to sound dumb but i really dont understand what this quiz is asking for. Like i got majority of the countries but i didnt know what i was looking for.
Thank you! The Southness in these countries exists, but as this list and a map shows, it is really relative. I was born in a town located 65 ° degree, and now I live in "Southern" Finland between 60 ° and 61 ° degree.
Tallness of Finland is over 10 degrees, the Northernest point is above 70 °. Half of our population of about 5,5 million is living below 61.1 ° degree line.
