This was much more difficult than I expected. And I find it amazing that as of now, as many as 10% of takers got East Timor, much less that 42% got Nauru.
It kind of surprised me too. However, I visited Kyrgyzstan once, and every small town had a prominent WWII memorial near the center of town. It hit me then that the war affected Russia more heavily than I had realized. Somehow, I thought the monuments simply leftovers from the USSR days when Russia ruled. This quiz seems to indicate that the "stans" lost a lot of people as well.
It would be better to say "modern-day countries" rather than "countries that exist today", because it could possibly mean that the countries to be answered are existent both in that period and now.
Thought about the same, but I think the quiz counts people who were living in the area of these countries at the start of WW2. Obviously the Jewish people were hit harder than any other people, but they're counted with the area they lived in at the time, converted to nowadays countries, which is a bit confusing.
^ like k says above, many Jews, but zero citizens of Israel, were killed in WWII as Israel didn't come (back) into existence until roughly 3 years after the end of the war.
time is perfectly fine as is. You're not supposed to be guessing every country in the world. If you don't know the answer you don't know the answer. If you want to guess every country in the world there's already at least 3 different quizzes for that.
Beyond combat deaths , Greek numbers have a lot to do with the Greek civil war between the two resistance groups, communists and royalists, and food shortages.
Great quiz! This was definitely trickier than expected. I only got 8 of the countries correct, so it came as a real surprise that I beat the average. It would be fascinating to see which countries get guessed the most that aren't on this quiz
Kingdom of Yugoslavia, as it was until 1941, accounts for 1,000,000 military and civilian deaths according to this source, of a total population of just over 15M, approx. 6.5%. https://www.nationalww2museum.org/students-teachers/student-resources/research-starters/research-starters-worldwide-deaths-world-war
Italy: 1.1%
UK: 0.94%
USA: 0.32%
I clearly sucked, but thanks still
I translate this quiz to german. If you are not okay with it, please contact me.
