Below you can see the map of all countries in the world with an additional legend. Each population range is identified by a number from 1 to 9 and a color. For each highlighted country type a number that represents a population range accurate for that country. If you guess it right, the country will be colored. Keep going until the whole map is colorful.
Tip: If you can't find the highlighted country, zoom in on random spots of the map
Cool! If you don't mind me giving advice, I have two main gripes with this:
1. It would be nice if you added circles for more of the smaller countries. I feel like I wasted a lot of time clicking on the map searching for tiny blue countries. For example, in total I'd say I spent about 1.5 minutes searching for just three countries (El Salvador, Djibouti, and Jamaica)--a significant amount for a quiz that is already heavily time-dependent. Being able to focus on just the numbers instead of frantically searching for the current country selected would make this quiz much nicer.
2. The legend doesn't seem very logically organized. Like, "8 to 15 million" is such an arbitrary range. If the ranges were cleaner, like "10 to 20 million," I would have remembered them more easily and been faster at this quiz. If you don't want to change the whole quiz to implement that, it's fine, just might be good to keep in mind if you do another quiz like this in the future.
That being said though, it's still a very creative and novel idea for a quiz, and I really enjoyed taking it. Nominated and hope to see more of these in the future!
Thank you, I appreciate your advice! The population ranges are like that so that the amounts of countries within each range are balanced, but I'll reconsider this while making another quiz for this series. I'm gonna add the dots though.
Fun quiz! But I have to agree with #1 above -- this happened so many times that I just stopped. If the circle is hard to implement, then another idea is to designate a keypress that flashes the current country a few times. (Not sure how technically doable that is, either.)
You can (almost) always push up/down to cycle back and forth between answers in "forced answer" quizzes, which should give you the effect you are describing (and was very useful for my attempt).
This was a very cool and fun quiz, however could you please add some more time? I was having a hard time seeing the highlighted country a lot of the time so a lot of the time was spent looking for it. Thank you and great job on this one!
Thank you for your input! My issue with adding more time would be making it possible to type all numbers and guess all countries without thinking in the process. I'd rather keep the quiz challenging, unless a lot of people struggle.
Well, I struggled. I gave up after #7. It's not much fun watching the time disappear while clicking all over the map trying to find the highlighted country.
Hey hey, really love this quiz but searching the highlighted country wasn't fun. I often ended up guessing, which kind of beats the purpose in my opinion. I do love the idea though.
If you changed the colour to bright green or added circles, it would definitely be one of the quizzes I repeat often to get better. But like this it is just a strain for my eyes, so I wouldn't repeat again.
Hope you come up with more creative quizzes and optimize them to reach the most people :)
I noticed sometimes several countries light up at once even though one country is only meant to be answered like I noticed Djibouti, Lebanon, El Salvador & Jamaica all lit up at the same time while sometimes no country is visibly lit.
However I spent half my time trying to find the pink country. I wonder if a different palette for the legend or a totally different colour for the highlighted country would be a good idea to pop more. There were some I never did find and just had to stick in random numbers until I got it and it went to a different country I could see. I don't know the solution to this.
