I don't follow football and I only knew four for definite but I got 19/19 as I knew only 8 countries have ever won the world cup, England only once and Uruguay only twice, so it was pretty easy to guess the rest!
Rugby football? Gaelic football? Australian rules football? Association football? American football? Oh, yeah, sure, just "football" is a much better word...
Considering it's the most well known and common form of FOOTBALL then yes it's understandable that most around the world call it that - even in Spanish-speaking countries, they call it "futbol" lool
Soccer's not my thing, but I do love the World Cup. I ended up guessing 100% but I really only knew about 5 for sure. The 1966 WC in England I remember because it was 900 years after the Battle of Hastings...weird...but that's how I remember it.
Spain's victory in 2010 broke the (almost) infallible rule: "The World Cup is always won by Brazil, Italy, Argentina, Germany or the host." Only spoilt by Uruguay in 1950 (which was before Argentina got as good as they did).
in the middle there is also some symmetry around the italy 1982 win. going forward and backwards from there it is argentina 1986/1978, (west) germany 1990/1974, brazil 1994/1970, host 1998/1966, brazil 2002/1962
I just guessed countries I've heard to be good at football (I've never watched a single football game) over and over again. To assure you it's possible to do the quiz like that, I had 1:06 left.
And let's remember what that English newspaper columnist supposedly wrote on the eve of the finals match between England and West Germany "If Germany beat us today at our national sport, we can always point out to them that we have recently beaten them twice at theirs.”
Interesting to see that European countries won nine world cups in Europe, and none in Latin America, while Latin American countries won six cups in Latin America, and only two in Europe. If you also consider that six countries won in their own country, playing hone seems like a huge advantage.
A nice general rule of thumb. Only one team from the eastern hemisphere has won in the western hemisphere. Germany 2014 in Brazil. Only one team from the western hemisphere has won in the eastern hemisphere. Brazil 1958 in Sweden and Brazil 2002 in Japan.
The 2018 World Cup was such an entertaining tournament! I doubt the next one will be as fun but then again, I didn't expect much from this one either :D
Yes! The biter: Suarez; the headbutter: Zidane; the tax avoider: Choose from Messi / Ronaldo; the faller: Neymar; the extortioner: Benzema; the karate kid: Cantona. I agree these people should be considered as role models!
lol, yes that is true, but Pele is clean. He should have been the person on the given photo, apart from the fact he is argued to be one of the best players of all time.
Any player that fouls or simulates a foul is a cheater at some point, cause they're trying to take advantage by breaking the rules. So virtually all of them.
I flew to Spain the day they won; I've never seen the country go so mad! I was sent back to the apartment with my sister and the rest of the family went out. It's why I'll never forget the 2010 winners.
Your opinion, shows that you lack general understanding. It also suggests that you are one of many brainwashed by the media to believe that other footballers are even close.
Interesting to see that some of the countries who made the top four regularly 50 years ago are nowhere to be seen today, but new countries have stepped up. Exciting to think what countries will be dominant in fifty years!
huh... actually managed to get them all with almost 3 minutes left with barely knowing any of the answers.
Started with the ones I knew... 2022, 1966, 1930.
Then went through and guessed host countries for all except the ones I knew had never won a World Cup.
Then went one-by-one guessing Brazil for everything. Then Germany for everything left. Then Italy, Argentina, France, Spain... then only had one left. Guessed Uruguay since I knew they used to be good in South America. That was it.
Such a coincidence that some countries won it in their own country like England, France, West Germany (part of Germany), Argentina and Uruguay. I am disappointed with France though as they didn't win this years but I am happy for Argentina.
- Most are Brazil, Germany or Italy
- England and France won once each, both on home turf
- Uruguay won the first World Cup
- At some point Uruguay won another, Argentina won two and Spain won one (which should be reasonably fresh in people's memories).
As long as you've got that down, there's plenty of time to sort it all out.
In 2010 I picked Spain to win at the start of the tournament.
In 2014 I chose Germany to win at the start of the tournament.
One month ago I chose France to win the 2018 World Cup.
I'm more psychic than that bloody octopus!
The quiz creator could also put the all-time leading goalscorer as the picture (Miroslav Klose).
And more one thing, Shakira are Colombian
I am Brazilian
I've created a quiz on all world cup hosts and finalists, give it a go if you're interested.
