Got 131, but kicked myself with some of the others. Difficult because most of the councils have split. Nominated anyway, must have taken some work to create.
Berkshire, Greater London, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, South Yorkshire, Tyne & Wear, West Midlands and West Yorkshire are all administrative counties, rather than the boroughs within them.
The legislation handing county powers to the boroughs just abolished the county councils rather than the counties themselves, as opposed to other 'unitary authorities' where new counties were created (where necessary) for the new single-tier authorities, and old counties abolished (where necessary) as well as the changes to the councils.
And yes I know that is annoying and confusing - that's English local government for you!
Furthermore, having done some research, I'm not sure the county boroughs in Wales are counties in their own right - the legalese itself is confused by the mess created! Scotland and NI have separated counties and administration totally AFAICS.
If the quiz was "top tier local authorities", then it is an excellent quiz. But it's "administrative counties", which opens this mess. Rename seems easier.
PS: South Northants was a district that became part of the new West Northants authority. Another move of silliness as the other one is North (which contained East) - presumably they did want the previously used cardinal directions.
I have now changed the quiz title to include "Second-Level Subdivisions", hopefully lowering some of the confusion.
For Northamptonshire, I mistakenly named West Northamptonshire as South Northamptonshire, it is now fixed. (Also, both North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire were created in April)
