The new movie wasn't nearly as enjoyable as the old one. Johnny Depp goes way too far trying to be quirky and it ends up being creepy and very uncomfortable and unnerving to watch. Plus they put tons of makeup on him so he ends up looking like a female clown...
I'm not usually one of those elitist people who whines about the older movies being better than recent movies/remakes, but in this specific case it is warranted. Wilder was more natural and the movie was more kid-friendly.
It's impossible to know whether he would have liked the other film, but it's true he hated the Gene Wilder one. It was so drastically changed from his original screenplay that he apparently 'disowned' it.
Grandpa Joe is a monster. Spends his whole life leeching off his daughter tucked away in bed while she scrubs laundry. Forces the family to eat cabbage soup so he can smoke his pipe. But guess who feels jolly enough to jump out of bed and dance a jig when the golden ticket comes?!
Let me get this straight...at the end of the movie, they fly around in a great glass Wonkavator, and yet the sequel is great glass ELEVATOR? I nearly broke my fingers retyping glass wonkavator over and over and wondering why it wasn't taking it.
I actually think the 2005 movie is better. I don't know why People think, that Johnny Depp is doing a bad Job... He's playing Willy Wonka in a brilliant way imo. And i just love Tim Burton, so that Special ''Burton touch'' adds to me liking the movie that much. It's even one of my favourite movies ever, but I know that the original is the beloved one, so I respect that.
I honestly think you need to accept all sorts of synonyms for "shrunk," such as miniaturised (even the god-awful American spelling miniaturized). I tried typing both of these in, but they didn't work, and they aren't incorrect.
Given WHAT happens to him (the process rather than the end result), words such as "zapped," "atomised (and again, atomized)," "reassembled," etc. are all perfectly acceptable answers to your question.
As a Brit, I really wish other Brits would stop making comments like this. There's nothing inherently wrong in using either a S or a Z in the word 'miniaturised'. Stop making us all look so petty and sad, for goodness' sake.
I have seen the argument that have happened in this chat which was over a year ago about which is the better movie (at the top of the hat). In my opinions Johnny Depp was much more funnier than Wilder and he was doing his job to be "creepy". Wilder on the other hand I think just acted pretty casual and a bit sinister as some people have said. I wouldn't think people would see my comment anyways :/
Trust me, Gene wilder is Much better. It really doesn't matter how "creepy" the lead is. It is about the acting and the film in its entirety and there is no contest. The 1971 film is a cherished cult classic for a reason; the 2005 is not, also for a reason.
For me this is my all time fa vorite movie. There are SO MANY hilarious scenes. It is a masterpiece. Gene wilder was BRILLIANT SO were all the adult characters and all the extras. There are so many hilarious one liners ; this 1971 gem should have been up for an oscar for best film. One of the Most hilarious quotes is when Mr. Salt, a great actor, says" i've never seen a person with an orange face before," i'm thinking "i have" right after that. i laugh every time. This should have won best director and best screenplay. Every anecdote is perfectly executed. I also love all the songs by anthony newley. Best Picture 1971

Roald Dahl hated the old movie and he's the one who wrote it. He liked the recent movie much better. So just keep your wrong opinions to yourself
