Please accept some alternative spellings for Tenerife. Spent so long trying to spell that and didn't end up getting it. I must have tried every combination of double letters. Didn't think to try all singles.
jeepy mentioned 'rr' and 'll' which are different sounds to 'r' and 'l', and 'cc' is a 'ks' (or 'kth') sound so it's not like random double letters in English with the same pronunciation as a single letter.
Could 'aurum' be accepted for 'gold'? After all, that's the latin term, it's the source for the 'Au' abbreviation, and it's also got 5 letters or less.
I really wouldn't call it obscure, definitely not when the subject is already chemical elements. But is it common in everyday use, no, and the element in English is commonly referred to as gold.
Semantics, but it asks for the element, we call it gold in English, if it had asked for the name of the element, I think there would be a better argument that Aurum should be accepted. (not that it d bad to add it currently, but if it is necessary..)
I wondered how many people answered africa for the "counties starting with a". Both here and in the original quiz. I am sure some must have atleast been tempted. And if you would ask people outside of this site, somewhere on the street for example, some people will definitely have answered that, I am sure of it.
(hey, better keep your expectations low and then be surprised right)
No, but I wasted a lot of time trying to name one of the 20 most northern cities in Europe. I couldn't believe none of my answers were working until I finally reread the clue.
Maybe a link to these quizzes in the stats, so that after completing the quiz, we can go to that quiz easily. As after doing the quiz, I thought I should do Types of Nobel Prizes, as that would give me easy 5 points (as I was speedrunning to 5k points). It would became more convenient for users to reach to these quizzes.
And Rudolph was my first stab - though I never think of him as a "real" one like the other 8.
Fun quiz - especially since I got 100%. Those are my favorites.
