You beat me by a lot. I've never been there, either, but my great-grandmother came from Mecklenburg, another ancestor came from the Palatinate, still another from Schleswig-Holstein. At least I got those correct along with some of the easier ones.
14/16 just from logic and a bit of historical knowledge. Never looked closely at a German state map before, though, just knew from reading what I should expect, say, Saarland to look like, and where Brandenburg ought to be, and so on. Really fun
For some reason Mecklenberg-Vorpommern has stuck in my head since I was little and had a jigsaw map of Germany. None of the other ones stuck, just that one.
For context: many of these are in every way comparable to US States, and probably deserve to be just as well known. Northrhine-Westphalia has 18M inhabitants and a GDP of over 700 billion €, which makes it more populated than 46 US States, and richer than 43 or 44, depending on exchange rate. It would also be the fourth most populated and the fourth richest country in North America, or the second most populated and second richest in Oceania, beating New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. In fact, three Bundesländer (Northrhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, and Baden-Württemberg) would each be second only to Australia in population and wealth, in the whole of Oceania. If Northrhine-Westphalia was independent, it would be the tenth most populated nation in Europe, beating among other the Netherlands, Sweden, Greece, Portugal etc. Depending on exchange rates, it has a GDP comparable to Switzerland - and, again, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are not too far behind.
This quiz is a good start to learn about important regions/provinces/states etc. Especially the Indian, American, German, and Brazilian ones because they are self-governing.
Fun Fact: A youtuber with 269k subscribers named Spaghetti Road played this quiz. I will not be surprised if there is a tiny spike in people playing Jetpunk!
( and I live in Germany )
