Can you name the 30 most spoken languages of the Americas? Only official languages and languages native to North or South America count, so no immigrant languages such as Chinese, or Punjabi.
While many people may call European languages such as English or Spanish as immigrant languages, the truth is that they have a much more nuanced and complicated relationship within the history of the Americas
Apologies for all of the Mexican/Guatemalan languages, there were just so many! I had to remove some in fact, due to them being considered as language groups, rather than a single language. I also considered adding Garifuna. Wikipedia states that there are 100,000 Garifuna speakers in Honduras alone, but I could not find any citations to back that up.
It is the most spoken Indigenous language by far in the United States. The number used here is from the 2011 U.S. census, and while the language has suffered decline, it is still one of the most spoken languages in both Arizona and New Mexico.
This is the worst I had done in this series. Got only 7, 5 of the European amd the other 2 by guessing name of a Mexican Peninsula and the language on Hispaniola. The languages which I missed, I had never heard them before!
This one is incredibly difficult! I could have included immigrant languages and made evereyone's life easier, but that would go against the spirit of the series (and if I were to place the dots on where it was most spoken, it sure would be fun to place ten or twenty on a single city ie. New York!). Even the Oceanian version should be much easier, once I get around to it.
Only Got 15
