Japan is more northern than Afghanistan, but the quiz calculates a country's distance from the Equator by its closest point to the Equator. For example, Argentina's southernmost point is further from the Equator than Uruguay's southernmost point but since Argentina is also closer to the Equator than Uruguay it's not on the list.
It is probably because of the Russian population in Europe and the fact that its capital is there. Kaliningrad which is a pretty big territory is smack dab near Poland and Lithuania.
Got all but uruguay, thought Tunisia was a stretch but I didn't think South America would sneak in after missing Chile. The closest point kinda threw me off.
Guess Jordan is the near-miss. Had in my mind that Aqaba would be the furthest south and expect it to show up after its neighbour, but looks like the closest point to the equator is further east. Great to learn new things!
