Congrats on making your first quiz, but you need to do something differently here. If I type in Chicago, I get "Chicago Police Department". Same for Baltimore, Dallas, Phoenix, Houston, and Philadelphia. But if I type in New York, nothing happens. If I type in Los Angeles, nothing happens. If I type in Miami, nothing happens. After seeing the results, I can tell why you didn't allow those things, but you need to give people a nudge in the right direction. You could either fill in both of the items when people type in New York or Los Angeles, or you could add a third column to indicate County, City, or State. I'd go with the latter option myself. Oh, and it's way over the top to not allow "Miami" to count for Miami-Dade. Thanks for making this!
I appreciate the suggestions...I didn't want it to simply be a "name big cities" quiz, I wanted the person taking the quiz to have to give the name of an individual agency, especially when multiple agencies share a geographical name. There is a City of Miami police department, the Miami-Dade police department is the county agency. I hope people taking the quiz will realize there is both a Los Angeles Police Department and a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office, and a New York City Police Department and a New York State Police.
I added hints as to which type of agency each answer is, and a caveat that the user must specify an exact agency. Also @joeythelemur, NYC Police will work now.
I took your quiz, too. Fine quiz, but agree a bit with tschutzer that you could fix type-ins to make it a bit more consistent. This is a common failing of many user quizzes from inexperienced quiz makers. I also failed to get Miami.
Interesting quiz. Is the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia different than the Capitol Police I feel like I have heard about in the media?
Yes, they are two different agencies. The metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia is the primary law enforcement agency of DC. The work under a municipal government, but have some Federal responsibilities and authority. The US Capitol police is a Federal Agency charged with protecting Congress in DC and elsewhere in the US. Thanks for taking the quiz!
I will never fathom why the US thinks it needs so many overlapping law enforcement agencies. What on earth is the difference between the LAPD and Los Angeles County Sheriffs?
It can seem that way with the similar names, but they don't actually overlap. LAPD covers only the City of Los Angeles. LASO covers unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County as well as smaller cities that contract with them for services. In many jurisdictions the County Sheriff's Office also runs the jail and serves civil papers (eviction notices, subpoenas, etc.), while city police departments just provide law enforcement, investigative, and traffic services.
