Germany unified as late as 1871. While it official retained the name Empire until 1945, this quiz is about the time it was ruled by a monarch: 1871-1918.
How many answers relating to this period can you answer?
Fun fact #1: The founding of modern Germany coincided with a military victory over France. To humiliate its neighbor, the Empire was proclaimed in the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles (famous painting). France had its revenge after World War I, when they made Germany sign its capitulation in the same room.
In a loose chain of events, Versailles is the place where Germany and France alternatingly instilled thirst for revenge against each other, culminating in World War 2.
Fun fact #2: Despite his tough guy image, Bismarck said that Germany was "satured", i.e. it didn't need expansion. He designed a network of alliances and was very skeptical of colonialization. Only when young Wilhelm II. ascended the throne did Germany pursue imperialist policies. Wilhelm quickly dismissed Bismarck - the pilot left his ship.
Fun fact #3: Lenin had been in Switzerland over the course of World War I; Russia and Germany were war enemies. German authorities expected Lenin to weaken his motherland, and so let him pass through their country.
