I am not sure how the term "New World" is used in the US, but if referring to the Americas as a whole, I would argue that the first successful colony was either La Navidad or La Isabela, and the first unsuccessful one was Vinland / Newfoundland.

what about greenland? vikings found that a long time ago. and it is apart of north America, so it s apart of the new world
