In 1978, five friends along with their coach "Buzzer" win the middle school basketball championship. During the celebration, the coach encourages them to live their lives in the same way as their championship match.
30 years later, the five friends have grown apart. Lenny Feder (Adam Sandler) is a powerful Hollywood talent agent and is married to Roxanne (Salma Hayek). Eric Lamonsoff (Kevin James) is co-owner of a garden furniture company and married to Sally (Maria Bello). Kurt McKenzie (Chris Rock)) is a househusband, married to Deanne (Maya Rudolph). Rob Hilliart (Rob Schneider) is a pacifist vegan, three times divorced, and now married to Gloria (Joyce Van Patten), who is thirty years older. Marcus Higgins (David Spade) is a lazy womanizer.
When they learn that their coach has died, they all return with their families to New England for the funeral. Lenny rents the lake house where the '78 victory party took place for the five friends and their families over the 4th of July weekend. During their stay they repeat games and the like from their childhood.
