All Modern-Day Countries Ever Controlled by British India
With the help of a map, can you guess all modern day countries that were at one point under the jurisdiction of British India between 1757 (establishment of East India Company rule) and 1947 (end of British Raj)?

Includes protected states (in orange).
Not including territories of the Dutch East Indies occupied during the Napoleonic Wars.
Great quiz! I mostly agree with this based on the research I've done. The one thing I question a bit is your decision to not include the protected states, especially Afghanistan. I mean, from what I can tell, during the Second Anglo-Afghan War, the British basically full on occupied Afghanistan and hand-picked an emir. Similar things could be said of the other Anglo-Afghan wars. Also, it seems that the first iteration of the Durrand Line had a significant chunk of modern Afghan territory on the British Indian side. If you don't think that's outright "control" I get it, but all the same, I'd like to hear your reasoning behind Afghanistan.
Thanks! To explain the exclusion of protected states; it's confusing. I'm thinking about changing this decision, considering they did have a hand in controlling their foreign affairs. If I do change my mind on this, these other things I might've missed will automatically be included, although I might have to look into Afghanistan's borders at the time.
Cool! I definitely agree that makes more sense. I was reading up on Nepal too and even though they were mostly independent, the British seemed to view/treat them as protectorate more so than protected state (which is true of most of the other so-called "protected states," especially in the Gulf and, as I said before, Afghanistan).
Anyways, as I said before, good quiz! Definitely think it's worthy of a nomination :)
This is correct, but they were both occupied by British forces during the Napoleonic Wars, however this didn't seem to be the case for Portuguese Dadra and Nagar.
Great quiz! But what about the Aden Protectorate? It was also governed by the Raj from 1872 to 1917, when its control shifted to the British Foreign Office. It also included the island of Socotra. It roughly corresponded to the former state of South Yemen.
This article by Dr James Onley, director at the University of Exeter, asserts that the Aden Protectorate (including Socotra) was governed by the Raj until 1917. This was one of the two sources I found on the internet, the other being a book written by the same person. It's fine if you don't want to include them. Great quiz, once again!
While I'm not sure of it actually being an answer (still don't know where I sit on the "British territories are the UK" scale), St. Helena was East India Company territory until 1834.
Also, it doesn't change the answers, but Balambangan island off Sabah was also briefly colonised by the EIC by at least 1768.
EDIT: I have decided to add protected states.

But maybe too much time.
